Traditional cultural values of Vietnamese families have been preserved, promoted and handed down from generation to generation during thousands of years of national history. These traditions are patriotism, love for homeland, love for family, fidelity, brotherhood, mutual assistance, good neighbourhood, humanism, ultruism, self-denial, gratitude, eagerness for learning, industruousness, diligence, undauntedness and steadfastness. It is these values that have created the idendity of Vietnamese cultural traditions. However, in the current international globalization, new cultural values of families have taken shape and several cultural traditional values of families are facing the threat of falling into oblivion.

To continue promoting traditional cultural values of Vietnamese families, following tasks should be taken: Dissemination, awareness raising and mobilization for implementation of the Strategy on Development of Vietnamese families. Vietnamese families should be plentiful, progressive, happy and be as sweet home for each member and a nucleus of society. This is an important task of the whole political system, social organizations, each family and each individual. Specialized policies should be made to develop family economy. Family should be considered as a comprehensive economic unit which embarks on production, business and consumption, uses resources and provide high quality human resources for society. Researches are to be implemented to identify, assess and develop system of traditional cultural values of Vietnamese families. Strategy on educating traditional values and traditional cultural values of family is to be developed. Appropriate solutions are to be implemented to ensure social security. Social services for families should be provided and developed. Dissemination and communication on family-related legislation such as Law on Marriage and Family, Law on Protection, Care and Education of Children, Law on Gender Equality, Law on Prevention of family violence should be carried out. Strict observance of these laws will positively contribute to promoting and succeeding traditional cultural values of Vietnamese family in the current period./.
